In the Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band era of the Beatles, they produced an animated film called ‘Yellow Submarine’. In the film the song ‘Day in the Life’ is animated, and the line ‘now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall’ was shown as holes filling this world famous concert hall in London. This image somehow inspired Swedish conceptual artist Wulf Bloomquist to wonder how many adult anal sex toys it would take to fill the Albert Hall.
Bloomquist decided the only way to do this was to make an air castle replica of the Royal Albert Hall and fill it with adult anal sex toys. His adult anal sex toy of choice at the time was the ever popular anal dildo.
When the piece was finished, there was an inflatable Albert Hall replica stuffed with 5722 adult anal sex toys in the form of anal dildos. This figure was partly arrived at by an Oxford mathematician, who was hired by a British national newspaper three years earlier in 1967 to do the math and work out how many holes it really would take to fill the Albert Hall. He calculated that the Royal Albert Hall has a volume of 3,060,000 cubic feet and could hold 5,222 seated patrons plus 500 standing. Bloomquist took this to mean that at full capacity there are 5722 ‘ass holes’ in the concert hall – hence the figure he arrived at to fill his air castle with adult anal sex toys.
When the project was over and the replica Albert Hall was taken down, Bloomquist offered the adult anal sex toys free in a raffle to all those that had filled in their name and address when coming to see the exhibit. Now you can confidently tell anyone who will listen how many adult anal sex toys it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
